How To Create Safer Spaces in a Commercial Building

The first thing to do to improve your business is to implement better safety measures. Here’s a brief guide on how to create safer spaces in a commercial building so you and your employees stay safe at work.

Invest in a Better Railing System

Even if a space feels small, you should invest in a modern railing system made from a material like glass. Glass is one of the safest materials to use for railing systems because it creates safer spaces. It makes it easy to see your surroundings and can be bulletproof, so it’s safer than other materials.

Glass railings also protect against falls; each sheet of glass is thick enough to withstand the weight of a person falling on it. Since there are no openings on glass rails, people’s feet won’t get caught. Investing in glass railings can create a safer, more open space in a commercial building.

Hire a Security Team

If your front desk doesn’t have a receptionist, you might find it helpful to have a security guard at the desk to check guests and workers in and out of the building. Additionally, security teams have the experience and training to detect suspicious activity in person and through video surveillance.

A surveillance system can help track activity 24/7. While a team of security guards is good to have, they aren’t always around after the building closes, so a surveillance system can monitor the building after closing.

Require Workers and Guests To Have Passes

You get visitors in your office building all the time, but it’s not always clear who might be there for an appointment or not. Keep a record of all occupants by requiring workers to have badges and guests to check in with the receptionist or office attendant.

Keep your records backed up on a computer, including pictures of your employees so you can easily put names to faces. Consider installing access control systems in off-limit areas so only workers with an authorized ID can enter and leave.

Install an Antenna System for Emergencies

Emergency responders may have difficulty getting to your office building quickly, so install an antenna system, or distributed antenna system (DAS). A DAS is a crucial safety element many businesses don’t know about. Your business needs this so emergency responders can act quickly in a dangerous situation.

One of the best things you can do for your building’s occupants is to improve the safety of your commercial building. These ideas ensure that your facility always stays secure, and no matter the situation, everyone can stay safe.
