Tell us about yourself?
Jeremy is an expert at helping transportation companies of all sizes grow by giving them access to the working capital they need. He has been involved in various roles within the transportation industry, including: freight factoring, equipment financing, equipment purchasing, lease operator program, driver manager, recruiting, payroll and equipment maintenance. These experiences have allowed Jeremy necessary insight as he has grown and directed Tetra Capital’s Transportation Factoring business.
If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
Be prepared to change and adapt. Everyone has had their lives changed the past couple years. I have learned if you put your team and clients first, we can work through the challenges facing us.
What problem does your business solve?
We get trucking companies paid quickly so they don’t have wait 30 – 60+ days to be paid. Eliminating the question of when they will be paid and getting them paid quickly allows them to pay not have to worry about how they will cover their expenses such as fuel and maintenance. For many companies this also provides them with the money to pay for the fuel for the next load they have to haul so they don’t have to turn it down.
We also handle many back-office services to help the carriers. We provide free credit checks on their brokers and shippers to help ensure they are hauling loads they will be paid for. We also handle their invoicing, processing, postage, collecting and more for no additional cost. This allows them to focus on hauling loads and growing their business.
What is the inspiration behind your business?
Our mission is: Build an organization that operates on the principles of simplicity and partnership. Many small business owners, especially in the transportation industry, are experiencing owning a business for the first time. Our goal is to help them grow their business by becoming a valuable partner and providing services which allow them to focus on running their business effectively. We provide funding, back office support, billing, collecting and other benefits like discounted fuel.
What is your magic sauce?
Our magic sauce is simplicity and transparency. We have heard from our clients that in the world of finance many are confused with what to do and how to do it. We try to serve as an advisor and partner to help small businesses grow. Our services are customized to fit each client need and are not one size fits all.
What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?
Our vision is to continue to grow by being a great partner for our clients. We have seen our business grow dramatically the past few years because our clients trust us and value the way we are different from our competitors. We believe if we do the right things, the business will grow and take care of itself.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?
One of our greatest challenges has been hiring staff that has the same vision as our company. Many people are used to working in an environment where everything needs to be slanted in their employer’s favor. To change the mentality to “do the right thing” has been a huge hurdle for some of our employees. However, once the people are right, everything else works.
