Joe E. Busby: we recognized a critical need for a more economically viable and sustainable waste management solution in agriculture farming

October 5, 2023

My name is Joe Busby, and I am the CEO and one of the Co-Founders of Global Sustainable Products, Inc. Our team has spent the last 37 years of our extensive careers in agriculture farming together raising both crops and livestock and we recognized a critical need for a more economically viable and sustainable waste management solution.

We have developed a cost-effective and environmentally friendly process to upcycle any biodegradable (a/k/a) compostable waste into 100% bio-secure feed and fertilizer. Our process is vital for biodegradable waste generators, animal feeders, and fertilizer users worldwide.

When our feed and/or fertilizer are complete there is zero waste left over to be disposed of which not only simplifies the process but is vastly more environmentally friendly. Our mechanical flow-through process takes only seconds to completely convert any biodegradable waste into 100% bio-secure feed and/or fertilizer. Unlike the other now-known biodegradable waste processes utilizing our proprietary formulas the feed and the fertilizer can be manufactured into any specific analysis the market requires. This is especially important in countries where feed and/or fertilizer supplies are limited and very expensive.

We also have developed a portable fully functional and self-contained plant that is ideal for remote locations, smaller and/or occasional waste supplies, and for use where there is no infrastructure or dependable power supply. Our process will benefit any location in the world because the whole world has biodegradable wastes that are an environmental problem and bio-secure feed and fertilizer are in short supply and very expensive, especially to farmers in countries where one or both commodities must be imported.

Our product has higher margins, lower costs, uses much less energy, and has greater scalability compared to currently available solutions, all while eliminating unpleasant odors and being unaffected by weather conditions. Invest in GSP Inc. and make a difference in the world. We are: “EARTHS BEST FRIEND”

Tell us about yourself?

My Degrees BS and Ms are in Agriculture and I needed to find a sustainable method to upcycle our agricultural wastes at a profit.

If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

Secure funding for a fully functional prototype earlier. We would also, contact industry publications to disseminate the advantages of our process over what the current options are for most of the world. We would also develop an advertising budget sooner than we did.

What problem does your business solve?

We reduce the need for putting biodegradable wastes (the chief causes of bad odors, disease transmission, and leachate) into landfills and instead upcycle them into 100% bio-secure fertilizer or livestock feed.

What is the inspiration behind your business?

The need to convert our own farm wastes into a 100% bio-secure product in a sustainable manner. The criteria for success were: 1 The products must be 100% bio-secure, 2 The cost to upcycle the wastes must be at least 40% less than the total cost of the process, and 3 The demand and market(s) for the product must be worldwide.

What is your magic sauce?

Unlike our competition (Commercial Mined Fertilizer, composting, digesters, and land-filling), our final product is 100% bio-secure, Is worth considerably more than the cost of production, is non-hazardous, non-corrosive, is a flow-through 17-second process, products produced can be made into the exact analysis the market requires by the use of our proprietary formulas, requires no special equipment to store or utilize the end products, and wastes can be processed on-site eliminating the need to transport wet wastes (along with their diseases, and smell).

What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?

Utilizing the portable plant we developed we intend to spread the technology utilizing strategic partners throughout the world. Thereby helping solve several critical environmental issues, health issues, and the current worldwide fertilizer deficit.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?

Getting the USDA and FDA approval to use the upcycled feed in the feed of livestock in the human food chain and thereby qualify under the strict HAACP regulations for food safety. Also, getting EPA to recognize that because our fertilizer is 100% bio-secure it qualifies as a Class “A” fertilizer not a Class “B” fertilizer like compost and distillate. We also had to develop the portable plant for two reasons: 1 Most potential clients (even if they believe you) want to see the process work with their wastes, and 2 most agricultural waste generated by farmers only needs to be upcycled one or two times per year so a permanent plant would be overkill.

How do people get involved/buy into your vision?

We have been very successful in showing our process at the Waste, Food, and Livestock Producer Expo’s in both the US and Canada. There we have made contact with potential cooperators from Asia, Africa, South America, and Europe as well as the US and Canada.
