Mohit Tiwari is an associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, His current research focuses on building secure systems, all the way from hardware to system software to applications that run on them. Tiwari and his team have designed and built the first secure processor that obfuscates all digital signal outputs, including even addresses to physical memory. This processor, implemented on a Convey FPGA-based server, can be used as a root of trust in datacenters where an attacker (a malicious employee, for example) has physical access to confidential computation. They are also working on a platform where users can control their privacy while using applications that span mobile and datacenter machines. We have prototyped an OS-level mandatory access control system that enforces policies across Android and server-side Linux machines, and developed a simple design pattern to express rich functionality in privacy preserving applications.

Among other things, Wil was responsible for the architecture and design of the audio subsystems for Apple’s award-winning multimedia computers and some components of Apple’s QuickTime multimedia software suite. In 1995, Wil moved to the joint Apple/IBM/Motorola Design Center in Austin, TX, where he was part of the team that produced several generations of PowerPC CPU designs. After Apple, Wil joined LifeSize Communications, where he developed breakthrough video and audio conferencing products. Wil was the primary designer of the LifeSize Phone; the world’s most advanced conference telephony system. He led a team of audio and manufacturing engineers to design and ship this ground-breaking product in less than 18 months from the day that he joined the company. LifeSize was acquired by multimedia giant Logitech in 2009. After LifeSize, Wil founded Rubicon Labs, Inc. and spent the next dozen years developing Rubicon’s Zero-Knowledge IoT security platform. Shawn Gray has over 15 years of diverse industry, functional, and geographic experience with large multinational corporations and smaller emerging growth companies. Mr. Gray joined TouchKO in the late 90’s as VP and GM. Under his leadership TouchKO developed new touch screen technology and manufacturing processes that would increase company yields, output, and profits. As General Manager, he grew TouchKO to a large semi-automated manufacturing company with 30 employees that was recognized worldwide as a touchscreen pioneer. Mr. Gray subsequently structured the acquisition of the company by Wacom in 2007. As part of the management team at Wacom he was responsible for supporting the Global Vertical Market customers including P&L until 2010. The TouchKO technology infusion into Wacom subsequently helped secure their transition and dominance in the touch and pen market today.

Pete Pickerill is VP of Products and Co-Founder of Datical. Prior to co-founding Datical, he was employee number one at Phurnace Software and helped lead the company to a high-profile acquisition by BMC Software, Inc. Pete has spent the majority of his career in successful Austin startups and the companies that acquired them including Loop One (acquired by NeoPost Solutions) and WholeSecurity (acquired by Symantec, Inc.), in addition to Phurnance. In his time at Symantec, Pete worked directly with large financial services companies and online retailers to implement and improve online fraud prevention solutions that were used daily by millions of people worldwide. In addition to managing a development team and product schedule at BMC, Pete worked directly with large financial institutions to provide the features they needed to achieve greater efficiency and cost savings in their application deployment processes. Pete is an Austin native and currently lives in South Austin with his wife and two sons. Pete loves UT football, the Beatles, and BBQing. He also has a background in acting and theatrical production, which he still enjoys as a hobby.
